Old General Store – Newtown

These clients purchased an old general store in Newtown with the idea of incorporating its original double shopfront into the design of their new contemporary home.

Successfully linking past with present, this home’s new entry leads you down a covered walkway, offering a glimpse of a cooling oasis beyond. The original brickwork has been complimented by a sparing selection of materials including Corten, render, weatherboards and galvanized steel, and with off-street parking at a premium, a rear facing garage has been created with a strategically placed car turntable. Now, looking at the ‘before’ and ‘after’ photos of this site it’s hard to believe it’s the same building!
